Riane Vickery is a sophomore member of the at Sibley-Ocheyedan FFA Chapter. She is the daughter of Keith and Jamie Vickery.

1.) Why FFA?:

I was raised in town and didn’t know much about agriculture. I gave it a try because everybody I had talked to said it was one of the greatest decisions, even if they were considered a town kid. I joined for the overall leadership and to gain a greater knowledge of agriculture life.

2.) FFA project:

For my SAE, I work for my family trucking company, which is classified under ag transportation. I do bookwork for the company, and work with financial figures in paying employees. We haul refrigerated trailers. We have recently bought a second trailer, and employed a second driver.

3.) I’ve learned:

I have learned so much about our local agriculture, but more than that, I have taken away leadership skills that I will use for the rest of my life. FFA has not only taught me, but I’ve used communication skills between myself and other team members. It has also taught me how to be a more confident person in more pressurized situations.

4.) Career path:

Before attending the national convention, I wasn’t quite sure what I wanted to do. It was soon after I started looking around, it hit me. FFA is an organization that I hope to be involved in for a very long time, and experiences I want to pay forward to the future of agriculture. I hope to study ag education so I can do just that.

5.) College plans:

I am unsure of where I would like to attend college, but I am looking into Iowa State, as well as other state universities.

6.) FFA acvtivities:

I have recently attended the national convention as a part of the 2014 National FFA Band. I also attended state convention as a freshman. I participated in Greenhand fire up, once as a greenhand, and the second as a volunteer. I competed on our Parli Pro team, and received gold on the Greenhand test. I also participate in many activities at the chapter level, such as meetings, fruit sales, and our Annual pork chop supper.
