Clay County recognitions
Spencer – The annual Clay County 4-H awards event was held March 29.
The following six special recognition awards are the highest honors 4-H programs award to 4-H youth.
- I Dare You & Ak-Sar-Ben awards – Taylor Jepsen, Clay County Conquistadors.
- County Citizenship Award – Lindsay Postma, Peterson Livewires.
- County Agriculture Award – Mark Langner, Logan Leaders.
- Outstanding Intermediate Award – Cassie Galm, Meadow Busy Bees.
- Outstanding Junior Award – Mariah Marquardt-Orwig, Peterson Livewires.
- County Achievement & County Leadership awards – Victoria Foerster, Logan Leaders.
4-H’ers attend 4-H Day in Des Moines
DES MOINES Six Hardin County 4-H’ers spent March 31 learning about the legislative process during 4-H Day at the Legislature. The event was organized by Iowa State University Extension in Hardin, Hamilton and Humboldt counties.
Kyle Cook, Levi Cook, Jaelyn Daggs-Olson, Hannah Reifschneider, Hannah Rose and Rebecca Stowe represented Hardin County at the event.
The 4-H members spent the day meeting with local legislators, emphasizing that 4-H programs reach school-age youth in Iowa. The 4-H Legislative Day is an opportunity to gain a greater understanding of state government.
Youth benefit from the opportunity to discuss various topics with legislators while taking in the political environment at the Capitol. The group also toured the Capitol and visited the Iowa Hall of Pride.
Hippology team competes at jamboree
The Webster County 4H Junior Hippology Team did well at the 2009 4-H & Youth Horse Jamboree, held April 4.
They competed in the statewide events with awards given to the top 10 individuals and the top five teams.
The team finished fourth, while Sadie Lewman scored eighth among junior competitors. There where 14 teams and 68 individuals for all over Iowa.
Webster County team members where Lewman, Ashley Sousa, Jena Sankey, Mackenzie Nelson and Libbie Lowry. This was the team’s first entry in the hippology contest.
Sadie Lewman also received a first-place award for her painting of a horse and her short story. She received second for her drawing of her horse.
