Woodlands field day set June 18
A woodlands field day will be held June 18, from 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Charles Ruby Woodlands located 2 3/4 miles west of Steamboat Rock at 31272 Hwy D35, in southeast Hardin County.
Topics include timber stand improvement, natural regeneration methods, developing a woodlands management plan, tree identification, marketing timber, and tree shear operations. Presenters will be Jess Randall, ISU Extension forester, Wayne Fuhlbrugge, DNR district forester, and Wes Wiese, Hardin County conservation director.
“Woodlands are increasing in value for many reasons,” says Darwin Miller, Hardin County ISU Extension director. “Woodlands provide a host of benefits including aesthetics, alternative crops, wood products, wildlife habitat, hunting and woodland edibles.”
The field day is free and open to the public. Registration by June 16 is requested to plan for refreshments. Register by calling Hardin County ISU Extension at (641) 648-4850 or (888) 648-5005. The field day is sponsored by Hardin County ISU Extension, Hardin County Conservation Board, Iowa DNR Forestry and ISU Extension Forestry.
