Dave Nelson, a Fort Dodge agribusinessman, was named 2009 innovator of the Year for last year Operation Strip-Till program.

Dave Nelson, of Otho, a Fort Dodge agribusinessman, received the 2009 Innovator of the Year award last month at the 18th annual National No-Tillage Conference in Des Moines.

He was honored for his work during 2009 for Operation Strip-Till, that was supported by the Iowa Learning Farm.

Farmers involved with Operation Strip-Till were able to experience the advantages of strip-till on portions of their cropland before converting their entire operations.

“It’s a big honor to be recognized on the national level,” Nelson said. “It helps us understand that we’re on the right track and that we’re making a difference.”

Nelson, a co-owner of Brokaw Supply in Fort Dodge, said the award was more for the company than for himself individually, he said.
