It’s ridiculous

By Staff | Apr 30, 2010

To the editor,

I just read your April 9 article on the USDA regulations for meat plants last night and I think it is totally ridiculous. If nothing happened to prompt the USDA to revisit this procedure then who or what did?

It sounds to me like these people are looking for something to validate their jobs rather than the rules they now have in place as they said. I would think they would need an awfully good reason to do something like this that is so expensive and would impact this industry so greatly.

I’m sure there are a lot of other areas that fall under their handd that need attention.

It is hard enough to operate a small business and make it work let alone add hundreds of thousands of dollars of added expenses.

We actually just had the owner of the locker in our small town come to the city council with plans to build an new state of the art facility so he could expand his lockers business as well as meet all guide lines in place at this time and be able to get into the retail market as well as other areas which he predicted would add up to 12 new jobs for our area. That would be a real economic boost in these times.

Now, with this new testing plan they are coming up with, for no good reason that I can see, his plans could be changed or even stopped completely and possibly even lead to the closing of yet another locker due to expensive, unneeded government regulations.

This is just one more thing that undermines the work trying to be done to get this economy back on track.

Hopefully they will come to their senses and this won’t have to happen.

Thanks for the informative article.
