Iowa fields hit by hail

By Staff | Jun 25, 2010

BELMOND (AP) – Hail has damaged several corn and soybean fields in north-central Iowa.

One farmer who has crops near Belmond and Alexander said he was shocked after seeing the damage hail from Friday’s storms caused to his fields. Norman Pals said he’s framed in the area for 37 years. He said the hail was so thick that “it looked like we’d just gotten two inches of snow.”

The farmer said leaves from his soybean plants were gone and his corn was shredded. Pals said if he can he’ll have to replant his soybeans, but he thinks his corn will recover. Pals said he has crop and hail insurance on his land.
