Schleswig gears up for 50 new wind turbines
Schleswig – The residents of this north central Crawford County community are gearing up for a change to the local landscape with the addition of 50 new wind turbines.
Construction is set to begin this fall following close on the heels of harvest as crews begin with establishing access roads and digging foundations for pouring the concrete bases.
An Oregon company, Iberdrola Renewables, has worked out agreements with crawford County, a process that has been ongoing for four years.
The 50 turbines, according to Paul Copleman, communications manager for Iberdrola Renewables, will generate 100 megawatts of power and will be sold directly to Alliant Energy for general distribution.
Copleman said the construction plans call for the roads and bases to be established before winter this year, then the pedestals, nacelles and blades erected by summer and the entire operation in certified production by the end of 2011.
