Vilsack: Expect surplus exports
JOHNSTON (AP) – Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack said the nation is projected to post a $41 billion agriculture export surplus and see farm income grow by more than 30 percent as commodity and land prices remain high.
Vilsack said commodity prices are likely to remain high for at least two years and that makes the farm economy one of the nation’s bright spots.
He spoke Friday during a taping of Iowa Public Television’s “Iowa Press” program airing later in the weekend.
Vilsack, a former two-term Democratic governor of Iowa, said the strong farm economy will give President Obama a good message to offer in his expected bid for a second term.
