Johnny Rivers set for Clay County Fair appearance
SPENCER – The Clay County Fair has landed Johnny Rivers, the rock ‘n’ roll legend with smash hits such as “The Poor Side of Town,” “Secret Agent Man,” “Baby I Need Your Lovin,” and “Memphis” who with special guest Sonny Geraci of the Outsiders will be featured on the 2011 Clay County Fair Grandstand Stage on Sept. 13 at 7:30 p.m.
Rivers has sold over 30 million copies and cemented his place in rock ‘n roll history.
A singer, songwriter, guitarist and record producer Johnny Rivers originally found his success in the 1960s with a diverse array of songs in various genres – blues, folk, rhythm and blues and inspired covers of rock-and-roll oldies.
This formula found him success with nine Top 10 hits as well as 17 other songs in the Top 40 charts throughout his career.
Rivers scored his first No. 1 hit with “Poor Side of Town,” which was followed by “Secret Agent Man.”
River’s cover of “Baby I Need Your Lovin’,” “The Tracks of My Tears,” “Memphis,” “Maybelline,” “Seventh Son” and “Swayin’ to the Music (Slow Dancin’)” were likewise successful.
Joining with Rivers for the evening will be Sonny Geraci, the original lead vocalist with The Outsiders, turning out several Top 40 hits: “Time Won’t Let Me,” “Respectable (What Kind of Girl is This),” “Girl In Love,” “Help Me Girl.” With the group Climax Geraci had his biggest hit “Precious & Few.”
