ICA sets 2011 convention, trade show

ALTOONA – The Iowa Cattlemens Association’s annual convention will be held Dec. 13 and Dec. 14 at The Meadows Event and Conference Center in Altoona.

The center is part of the Prairie Meadows Racetrack and Casino.

Pre-Convention activities on Dec. 12 includes Pfizer Animal Health’s cattlemen’s college at the convention center from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Following the cattlemen’s college will be a feedlot tour in Story County that shows three different approaches to buildings at:

  • Sampson Farms, in Nevada, a non-traditional feeding operation which uses a hoop/open lot.
  • The Longnecker Cattle Co., in Ames, has a hoop in a confined feedlot operation.
  • The Couser Cattle Co., in Nevada, with a monoslope building, alternative technology system and a new commodity building.

The Cattlemen’s College, feedlot tours and the meals included are being offered to ICA members at no cost.

The tour will begin after lunch and will return to Prairie Meadows for supper and a panel discussion.

Although there is no cost to the event, reservations are required in order to plan adequately for transportation and meals.

Learning sessions

Info Expo sessions are back for the 2011 convention. On Dec. 12, attendees will break into the first round of informational sessions.

County membership awards and Brand Wall presentations will be held during the Tuesday luncheon. The afternoon will consist of ICA policy committee meetings and a second round of informational sessions.

The Trade Show reception will be held early Tuesday evening, with a buffet bar to follow

Following the meal, ICA will present its Hall of Fame Award, kickoff off the ICA 40th anniversary, and conclude with the Iowa Cattlemen’s Foundation Annual Fundraising Auction.

The annual meetings for both ICA and the Iowa Beef Industry Council will be held Dec. 13. This will include the adoption of ICA policy by members.

The annual meetings and trade show will conclude by noon.

Table top trade show

ICA will again offer a trade show so members can talk to a wide variety of vendors. The trade show will feature 70 vendors.
