Producers considering a small wind energy turbine on their farms can get tips on what they are in for at 1 p.m. on Nov. 30, during the farm News’ Ag Show.

Harold Prior, executive director of the Iowa Wind Energy Association, is one of five speakers set to make presentations during the 2011 Ag Show, Nov. 30 and Dec. 1, to be held at the Career Education Building on the Iowa Central Community College campus.

To celebrate its 10th annual ag show, Farm News is giving away a four-day, three-night trip for two to Las Vegas. Travel dates are Feb. 12-15 or March 4-7, 2012, subject to availability.

Prior’s presentation will focus on tips for those thinking of getting into the small wind generation market.

He’ll offer an overview of the market, the variety of turbines available and steps farmers need to know before making the purchase.

Prior founded the IWEA in 2008. A retired school administrator, Prior has been interested in wind energy since the 1990s.

Nov. 30:

• Adam Wirth, POET?regional biomass coordinator, speaking at 9:30 a.m., on “Beyond the Kerner:?Stover Strategies for Biofuel Production -?What We’ve Learned.”

• S. Elwynn Taylor, iowa State University agricultural meteorologist, at 3 p.m. He’ll discuss the risks producers will face before, during and after getting new seed into the soil next spring.

Dec. 1:

• David Kruse, president of CommStock Investments, in Royal, at 9 a.m.

He’ll talk on “The agricultural Eagle: In the flock of turkeys can be ag sector keep flying high?”

• Dr. Kendall Lamkey, chairman of the ISU agronomy department, at 1 p.m.

He’ll speak on “Prospects and challenges to raising a 300-bushel corn crop.”
