Iowa 4-H Foundation to host Northwest Iowa 4-H Golf Benefit
AMES- The first Northwest Iowa 4-H Golf Benefit will be held at the Emerald Hills Golf Club in Arnolds Park on Friday, June 22. This event benefits Iowa 4-H youth programs throughout the state. “Our main goal is to raise money for the Iowa 4-H Foundation so they can fund activities for Iowa 4-H’ers,” said Bob Butcher, Northwest Iowa Golf Tournament committee chair.
While the Iowa 4-H Foundation has been hosting tournaments for 16 years, this is the first in Northwest Iowa. “We chose to have a tournament in Northwest Iowa because this part of the state is rich in 4-H tradition,” said Butcher.
At the tournament, participants will have the opportunity to compete in a best ball tournament with chances to win team and individual prizes. Bill Northey, Iowa Secretary of Agriculture, will serve as the celebrity golfer for the event. 2011 Iowa State Fair Queen, Paris Schnepf, will also be making an appearance. An evening social and auction benefit featuring Iowa State merchandise, local community items, and other packages will follow the golfing event.
The Northwest Iowa outing is sponsored by Jon Hjelm- Acre Co. of Spencer, American State Bank of Sioux Center, Northwest Bank of Spencer, First National Bank of Sioux City, and Ronda & Harry Edwards in memory of Robert J. Butcher.
“We are most looking forward to meeting with sponsors, donors, and participants who are making these opportunities available to Iowa 4-H’ers,” said Butcher.
Butcher estimates participation from 14 surrounding counties.
The Iowa 4-H Foundation provides financial resources for youth development through 4-H. The 4-H Foundation also provides funds for overall support of the 4-H Youth Development Program, helping support volunteer recruitment and training, marketing and promotions for membership recruitment and the creation of new program partnerships, and support for program leadership, strategic planning and endowments for the future.
