By Staff | Jun 28, 2012

CHARITON – A three-day trip to locations in Iowa, Illinois and Missouri offers Iowa beef producers the opportunity to tour innovative beef operations and visit with successful producers and cutting edge researchers.

Iowa State University Extension Beef Program Specialist Joe Sellers said stops at the University of Illinois Dixon Springs Research Center and Land O’Lakes Purina Feed Longview Animal Nutrition Center in Missouri will provide current information on research being conducted at those locations.

The trip runs from July 16 through July 18 with passenger pick up at three southern Iowa locations.

The July 16 pick-ups will be at 7 a.m. in Charton, at 7:45 a.m. in Albia and at 8:20 a.m. in Centerville.

“The trip includes several stops at private ranches and operations,” Sellers siad, “in addition to the research facilities, during the three days. Those who attend will be able to see and ask questions about a number of timely topics pertinent to their own operations.”

Registration fee for the tour is $100 per person, which includes bus travel from and to the Iowa locations, and some meals and refreshments. Lodging and most meals are not included, and lodging reservations must be made individually with a deadline of June 29.

The $100 registration is due by June 25 to ensure a spot on the bus. To register, send name, address and a check for $100 per attendee payable to Lucas County Extension, 48293 Hy Vee Road, Chariton, IA 50049.
