Threshermens’ show highlighting Minneapolis-Moline machines

The Albert City Threshermen and Collectors will host Minneapolis-Moline collectors during its annual show Aug. 10-12 at the Threshermen grounds northwest of Albert City on M-54.

Minneapolis-Moline collectors are expected from all over the U.S. and will exhibit Twin City, Minneapolis, Moline Power Company and post-merger Minneapolis-Moline and Avery equipment.

Visitors can expect to see large Minneapolis steam engines, big gas engines and implements along with tractors and machinery of all ages, makes and models. Field demonstrations include threshing, binding, baling, combining, corn shelling, plowing and disking.

New this year will feature a large potato patch where children can run out and gather potatoes.

A Threshermen’s tractor ride will be introduced this year. A Minneapolis-only tractor ride will start at the Chuck Virgil farm near Sutherland on the morning of Aug. 9, making its way to the show site for noon lunch. They will head up the Threshermen’s tractor ride which will leave the show site at 1:30 p.m.. The afternoon ride is open to all makes and models of tractors. Riders will travel to the Albert City Museum and then to the Railroad Museum in Marathon before returning to the show site.

As part of the entertainment this year the show is hosting a talent show that’s open to local musicians and vocalists.

There are three age groups with prizes to be awarded. The talent show will start at 3 p.m. on Saturday.

Regularly scheduled exhibits include a toy show, wood shop, wood carvers, a heritage doll show, quilt show, petting barn, arts and crafts, vintage military vehicles, antique cars and trucks, Ridge Runners, blacksmith shop, broom factory, flour mill, saw mill, school house, farm house, Svenska Stuga, horse activities, plus food and homemade ice cream.

The show is now in its 42nd year and provides entertainment for about 15,000 visitors each year.
