DES MOINES – U.S. Department of Agriculture soils expert, Ray Archuleta, will bring his high-energy presentation style to Iowa next week.

He will give a presentation entitled “Farming for the 21st Century: How Soil Health will Save the Farm” at five locations throughout the state beginning Tuesday and ending Sept. 7. All events are free and open to the public.

Archuleta is a conservation agronomist for USDA’s Natural Resources Conservation Service in Greensboro, N.C. He specializes in soil quality and the principles of agro-ecology throughout the United States.

In 23 years with USDA, Archuleta has worked in five states and served in several capacities, including a water quality project manager, an irrigation specialist and a soil conservationist.

“Ray is a dynamic speaker who will grab your attention and make you think about what you are doing on your farm,” said Rick Bednarek, state soil scientist for NRCS in Iowa.

“He uses props and tools to show the audience how soil responds if properly managed.”

Archuleta’s presentations include:

  • Tuesday at 1 p.m., Southwestern Community College, Room 108, in Creston.
  • Wednesday at 8:30 a.m., Buena Vista University, Hanson Room 8 in Storm Lake.
