Zak Sievers is a senior at Newell-Fonda High School, in Newell and president of that school’s FFA chapter.

1.) Why FFA?:

FFA is a great organization to be involved in. It has an obvious connection to agriculture and through it I am able to learn more about agriculture and possible fields I can go in to.

2.) FFA project:

Throughout high school I have shown cattle and pigs at the B.V. County Fair. I have also worked on our family’s farm during planting and harvesting seasons.

3.) I’ve learned:

The thing I learned in FFA that I value the most was all the different aspects of agriculture. There are a lot of interesting activities and opportunities in agriculture education and the FFA that helped me look into some of those aspects of agriculture.

4.) Career path:

I have learned more about agronomy and soil samples through the FFA.

I had little experience in soils prior to my involvement in the FFA. It would be interesting to pursue a career in agronomy.

5.) College plans:

Attend Iowa State University majoring in ag biotechnology.

6.) FFA acvtivities:

  • Ag issues team my junior year.
  • B.V. County livestock judging,
  • Helped organize and spoke at annual Veterans Day Assembly,
  • Chapter fruit sales,
  • Helped organize and implement FFA Week, drive tractor to school day, appreciation lunch, dress up days, ag olympics and chapter banquet.
