Dayton revamps ag show as Expo set for March 8

DAYTON – The Dayton Expo: it’s not just about agriculture anymore.
Previously titled the The Dayton Ag Expo, the annual vendor show has undergone some tweaks and is now geared toward all genres, not just specifically agriculture.
It will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. March 8 at the Dayton Community Center.
Meredith Gallentine, one of the show’s coordinators, said the expo is returning to Dayton after a one-year hiatus.
“We took a year off to re-group and change it up a little bit,” said Gallentine. “We have opened it up to other venues.”
The Dayton Expo, put on by the 28 E Board and the Dayton Community Club, is expected to feature more than 60 vendors that should appeal to most any visitor.
This year, the show, Gallentine said, will include a variety of home-based businesses and other vendors still appealing to the agricultural interests as well as health care vendors and more.
“This is a place for new businesses to be able to get their name out there and get exposure,” she said, “as well as old businesses to get in touch with their customers and for those home-based businesses that many may not know about.”
During the Dayton Expo, Casey’s will be providing free doughnuts in the morning and coffee, peanuts and popcorn for snacking on throughout the day, the Webster County Pork Producers will be cooking a free meal beginning at noon.
Gallentine said the Dayton Expo will be geared to all ages.
“The show will be for anyone and everyone,” said Gallentine. “We want everyone to check out our businesses and shop local and help support our community and come see what Dayton is all about.”
Under the former name of Dayton Ag Show, this is a long-running event that was started by Richard Tell, of Dayton, and was led for several years by Sid Sandholm.
Noting their passion for the show, Gallentine said “They were very proud about the expo, and so are we.”
Gallentine said the show is organized by volunteers.
