Students may register for Wired for Wind Workshop and BECON biomass facility tour

NEVADA On May 4, fourth- through 12th-graders and their parents can learn about energy related STEM skills when they design wind turbines and tour the BECON Biomass Energy Conservation Facility in Nevada.

The tour is from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. and the workshop is from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Preregistration is required. Cost is $10 per youth; no cost for parents. Lunch is provided for youth and parents.

This experience is part of the Partnership for Engineering Educational Resources for Schools program through the Governors Science, Technology, Engineering and Math Scale Up Initiative for which Iowa State University Extension Region 8 received funding.

The goal is to provide youth and parents an opportunity to learn about the interesting and rewarding skills and careers in STEM.

The field trip is available to all fourth- through 12th-graders and their parents in Boone, Hardin, Marshall and Story counties.

To participate, complete the registration form by April 26; form is available www.extension.iastate.edu/boone.
