By Staff | May 26, 2013

NEW PROVIDENCE – Youth completing fourth through sixth grade may participate in the Mad Scientist in the Kitchen Day Camp from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on June 21 at the Quakerdale in New Providence.

Participants will test food for vitamin C, protein and starch; extract DNA from a banana, then make a smoothie; make their own enchilada and tortilla lunch; get moving with fun games; and tour Quakerdale’s aquaponics garden and outdoor garden to learn about the science and business of gardening.

This experience is part of Iowa State University Extension-Region 8 4-H youth development programming, funded in part by Partnership for Engineering Educational Resources for Schools through the Governor’s Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math Scale Up Initiative.

Preregistration and a $25 fee payment required by June 7.

Registration information is available at www.extension.iastate.edu/Hardin.

Questions may be directed to Elise Fiscus, ISU Extension and an AmeriCorps member, at (641) 752-1551.
