Farmland leasing meetings set

By Staff | Jul 13, 2013

SAC CITY – The Iowa State University Extension in Sac County has set a farmland leasing workshop for 9 a.m. on July 31 in the Extension office in Sac City.

Another meeting will be held at 1:30 p.m., on Aug. 15 at the Webster County Extension office, 217 South 25th St., Suite C12, in the Cross Roads Mall in Fort Dodge.

Reservation are sought by calling Sac County at (721) 662-7131 and Webster County at (515) 576-2119.

Attendees will learn about current cash rental rate surveys and factors driving next year’s rents such as grain prices and input costs.

They will also hear why and how much land values have increased and potential factors leading to a “land bubble.”

2013 should bring another farm bill and participants will learn how the loss of direct farm payments will impact cash rents.

They will also learn about other ISU Extension and Internet-related resources such as the web soil survey website and satellite pictures.

A 100-page workbook will be included.

“With the volatile grain markets and increasing input costs you’ll want to attend this meeting to stay up to date on what is happening,” said Kelvin Leibold, ISU farm and ag business management specialist.

Registration is $20 per person. Add $5 for late registration less than two days before the workshop.

Registration is payable at the door.
