Iowa Learning Farms’ January webinar looks at last 10 years as well as the future of agriculture

By Staff | Jan 11, 2014

Ames — The Iowa Learning Farms’ monthly webinar, will at be 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday.

This month kicks off the fourth year of ILF webinars as well as the 10th year of the Iowa Learning Farms program.

Jacqueline Comito, this month’s presenter, is the ILF program manager. Not breaking with tradition, Comito has presented each January webinar.

The webinar is part of a free series, hosted by ILF, through Adobe Connect. The series is on the third Wednesday of each month.

Comito’s presentation, “Building a Culture of Conservation: a 10-Year Review,” will offer an overview of ILF, how it started and the accomplishments that the program has experienced.

She will also consider the future of Iowa agriculture in relation to the nutrient reduction strategy. Will regulation be the solution? Or will voluntary compliance continue to be the key to adopting conservation practices that reduce erosion and improve water quality?

Comito has been with ILF since 2005 serving as program evaluator. She became the assistant manager in 2008 and program manager in 2010.

Representatives of the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship, Iowa Department of Natural Resources and Iowa State University conceptualized Iowa Learning Farms in 2004. Farmer partners and other agencies and organizations have joined to help the ILF team promote ways to adopt conservation practices across the state.
