By Staff | Feb 1, 2014

SAC CITY – With less than 11 weeks remaining to meet requirements for having health insurance, Iowa State University Extension is offering two free workshops on Tuesday to help Sac County residents understand how to make smart choices for purchasing health care coverage.

An afternoon workshop from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. will be held at the Sac City Public Library, 1001 W. Main St., and an evening session from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., will be held at the Sac County Extension office, 620 Park Ave.

Through the Smart Choice Health Insurance workshop, attendees will:

A). Be able to compare different plans available through the Health Insurance Marketplace.

B). Find out whether they may qualify for tax credits or cost sharing assistance to pay for coverage.

C). Understand how to calculate their costs under different health plans.

D). Learn how to find out which health care providers participate in various plans.

E). Receive a workbook for identifying their own health insurance needs and priorities.

F). Learn how to purchase coverage at healthcare.gov.

“This workshop will help people understand health insurance changes and choose coverage that best fits their family’s budget and health care needs,” said Barb Wollan, Extension family finance specialist.
