Prepare for environmental audits

By Staff | Jun 30, 2014

SAC CITY – It’s time for the Iowa Department of Natural Resources to look at farm operations.

Over the next four years, the DNR will be conducting environmental audits of most Iowa livestock operations.

The audits are detailed and farmers need to be prepared.

If there are areas which need to be cleaned up, now would be a good time to get it done.

To help farmers prepare for the audits, ISU Extension is planning a series of workshops to look at key points that will be visited.

The Sac County workshop is planned for from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. on July 10 at the Sac County Extension office.

To register call (712) 662-7131.

Cleaning up farmsteads will reduce run-off risk and help to address any shortcomings before the audit takes place.

Each workshop is limited to 20 people, and there is no charge for the meetings.

Dave Stender and Kris Kohl will go over the Environmental Protection Agency and DNR work plans.

The checklist of inspection areas will be covered as well as being certain a farm’s paperwork is in order.
