Water conservation tour slated in Otho

By Staff | Jul 25, 2014

OTHO – A Water Conservation Tour will be held from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 1 at the Smeltzer Farm, 2.5 miles south of Otho on Iowa County Road P59 (Nelson Avenue), on the east side of the road.

Agriculture’s Clean Water Alliance and the Iowa Soybean Association have invited leaders from rural and urban areas to learn more and discuss farm practices farmers are employing to conserve and protect water quality during National Water Quality month.

The program will include a tour around the farm to see field monitoring, a working bioreactor, an oxbow lake, water sample collection and monitoring, and review the latest technologies being used to achieve precision application.

Conservation and water experts will discuss practices and answer questions throughout the three-hour tour.
