Flavors of northwest Iowa sets scavenger hunt

By Staff | Sep 3, 2014

ROCK RAPIDS – Farmer’s markets across Northwest Iowa are open for the season offering diverse selections of vegetables, fruit, flowers, herbs, eggs, honey, meat, crafts and other products.

Iowans can find everything from heirloom varieties to high-antioxidant health foods. Many of these producers invite the public to visit their places of operation.

Ten willing producers in the region have agreed to participate in the first annual Flavors of Northwest Iowa Scavenger Hunt.

A game piece can be obtained at participating locations or downloaded at www.flavorsofnorthwestiowa.org.

To play, visit the 10 producers listed on the game piece. Some will be at farmers markets and some will have to be visited their locations.

Match the picture clue with the business on the game piece. The participating business will provide a sticker.

Place the sticker on the appropriate picture clue. The deadline for submitting entries is Dec. 14.

Based on how many locations are visited determines what prizes can be won.

Some businesses may be found at multiple locations, but participants need only visit one location per business.

Collect all 10 stickers for a chance to win a one-night stay at Little Swan Lake Winery Bed and Breakfast (www.lslwinery.com) which is open year round.

Complete the player information on the back of the game piece and mail to ISU Extension office in Lyon County, 710 North Second Ave., East, Suite 103, Rock Rapids, Iowa 51246.
