Hardin County schedules farm bill overview meeting
IOWA FALLS – Hardin County Extension has a 2014 farm bill over view meeting.
The event is from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Dec. 19 at the Ackley Recreation Center in Ackley.
Presenters will be Kelvin Leibold, an Iowa State University Extension farm management specialist, and Sandy Hoversten, executive director for Hardin County Farm Service Agency.
Because of the new farm bill, landowners are deciding whether to reallocate base acres and update yields. It is the first opportunity to make those changes since the 2002 farm bill.
“Now is a good time for landowners and tenants to talk about the benefits of updating yields,” Leibold said.
The farm bill meeting will introduce new programs – Price Loss Coverage, County Agricultural Risk Coverage, and Individual Agricultural Risk Coverage.
Leibold will also discuss how the new crop insurance product, Supplemental Coverage Option, interacts with the PLC program.
There is no cost to attend the meetings; however, pre-registration is required to prepare adequate handouts.
To register, call Hardin County Extension at (641) 648-4850 or toll free at (888) 648-5005.
The meeting is sponsored by ISU Extension, USDA, Farm Credit Services and Iowa Corn Growers Association.
