Central Plains FFA holds tractor ride

By Staff | Jul 10, 2015
The Central Plains (Southeast Valley) FFA chapter’s annual tractor ride heads down Main Street in Gowrie the morning of July 3. Steve Kehoe, chapter sponsor, said he was pleased with the turnout of more than two dozen tractors. The ride began at Laurel Park and headed for Nick Foster’s farmstead near Jefferson, home of the Pleasant Prairie Threshing Bee.
Bob Sondgerath, of Jefferson, right, talks with his mechanic, Paul Piltingsrud, of Gowrie, about doing some work on his John Deere 1948 G. Sondgerath said he was drawn to this particular tractor because he was born in 1948 and his dad had owned a G.
Collin Nordin, of Gowrie, discusses some of the finer features of his father’s John Deere 4640 — including an air-conditioned cab — before the Great Plains (Southeast Valley) FFA?tractor ride takes off from Laurel Park on July 3. Nordin said it was the first time he had driven a tractor with a cab in the annual FFA ride.
Although green was the dominant color of the day, there were some other hues visible at the Central Plains FFA’s annual tractor ride in Gowrie, as demonstrated by both red-and-white and yellow-and-white Minneapolis-Molines.
Mason Bahr, of Gowrie, led the parade of tractors out of Laurel Park for the annual FFA tractor ride.
