Farmland leasing meeting set Aug. 18 in Burt
BURT – The Kossuth County Iowa State University Extension Office is hosting a farmland leasing meeting from 9-11 a.m. Aug. 18 at the Burt Activity Complex located at the old gym in Burt.
The meeting presented by Kelvin Leibold, ISU Extension farm and ag business management specialist will address questions that land owners, tenants or other interested individuals have about farmland leasing.
More than half of Iowa farmland is rented, and the percentage of farmland rented has increased over time due to the changing demographics of farmland owners. Iowa farmland cash rental rates decreased overall this past year. Farmland values have also decreased.
Attendees will gain an understanding of current cash rental rate surveys and factors driving next year’s rents such as market trends and input costs. Information related to types of leases, results of farmland value surveys, lease termination notices, farm bill updates, and web based resources will be discussed. Available is a 100-page guide for registered participants.
“Due to changes in commodity markets and government programs, farmland owners and tenants have challenging decisions to make. This meeting provides information to stay up to date on farmland leasing issues,” said Leibold.
Registration is $20 per individual or $30 per couple. An additional $5 fee will be added if registering less than two calendar days before the workshop. Pre-register by calling the Kossuth County Extension office at (515) 295-2469.
Similar meetings are being held across Iowa. Other locations can be found by contacting the Kossuth County Extension office or the ISUEO calendar of events at www.extension.iastate.edu/calendar.
