Culinary tour of Buena Vista County set

STORM LAKE – Iowa State Extension-Buena Vista County will host a culinary, farm-to-fork Flavors of Northwest Iowa tour from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.

The bus will depart at 9 a.m. at the Buena Vista County Extension Office, 824 Flindt Drive, Suite 101 in Storm Lake and make the following stops:

  • Storm Lake Farmer’s Market: Attendees will tour the market and interact with growers and producers making a variety of items available at the market.
  • Boyer River Gardens and Antiques: Attendees will tour the vast heirloom floral and vegetable gardens. Visitors will also visit the Sebastopol ducks on site and sample a variety of heirloom tomatoes and other vegetable creations.
  • Innspirations Vines and Wines: Attendees will tour the vineyard and learn the history of the winery and sample wine. A meal will be prepared by Lakeshore Catering using locally produced items from the region.
  • Lichter Brothers Buffalo: Attendees will meet the buffalo calves and sample buffalo jerky and sausage. The Lichter brothers recently purchased their buffalo herd from Skelton Bison.

Flavors of Northwest Iowa, a program of Iowa State University Extension, is part of the Regional Food Systems Working Group tasked with providing producer education, consumer information and support for healthy food partnerships throughout Northwest Iowa.

The cost is $65 per person. Register online at www.flavorsofnorthwestiowa.org.This will be the only tour offered by Flavors of Northwest Iowa this season.
