Badger Firehouse Rock set Saturday

By Staff | Aug 5, 2015

BADGER – The all-volunteer Badger Fire and Rescue Department is raising funds to purchase a new pumper truck by scheduling a Firehouse Rock event at 5 p.m., Aug. 8.

The concert will be held at Badger Ball Park and will include a dinner, silent auction and Vic Ferrari Band playing at 8:30 pm.

The department is looking to replace its 1989 pumper unit. A new pumper truck will cost approximately $250,000.

The Aug. 8 Firehouse Rock is expanded from the familiar Fireman’s Ball.

The evening will begin with a dinner starting at 5 p.m of pulled pork sandwiches, cheesy potatoes, barbecue beans and refreshments for $10 for adults and $5 for children under 10.

The live auction will be held at 6 p.m. Vic Ferrari Band will take the stage at 8:30 p.m. and play until midnight.

There will be beer and coolers available to purchase all evening.

Tickets for the Vic Ferrari Band are $10 or $15, which includes the dinner.

Tickets can be purchased at Hy-Vee in Fort Dodge, from department members, online at www.eventbrite.com or at the gate.

The rain location will be the Badger Fire and Rescue Fire Station.

Services provided by the Badger Fire and Rescue cover over a 60-mile area.

These services are fire, rescue and EMS. There are more than 20 volunteers in the department that donate more than 10,000 hours each year on calls, attending trainings and maintaining the equipment and fire station.

Over and above all the volunteer hours that the department donates, being a member requires they conduct various fundraisers during the year to cover the costs of the department.

Volunteer fire departments receive few tax dollars.

“The members have been devoting their time planning the Firehouse Rock event for the last several months.

Our goal is to finalize the funding for the new pumper truck this year so we can have it at our next Firehouse Rock in 2016,” said Troy Martens, Badger Fire and Rescue Volunteer and event chairman.

The department’s service area includes the City of Badger and the townships of Deer Creek, Badger, and Cooper.
