Hanover Village Festival set Sunday
ALTA – The Hanover Festival will be held from noon to 7 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 30, at the Hanover Village, Junction of M-27 and C-65 southwest of Alta.
The Hanover Festival is family-friendly and offers fun for all ages. This is an opportunity to visit the many restored buildings including: the old general store with many of the original furnishings, blacksmith shop, homes, and farm buildings filled with displays of rural life from the early 1900’s.
Various demonstrations are planned to show the operation of old farm machinery and domestic crafts.
Highlighting the demonstrations will be a horseshoe pitching at 2 p.m. by Kevin Cone, the 1992 National Horseshoe Pitching Champion and Iowa Champion on numerous occasions.
Other demonstrations will include:
- A hand picking of corn highlighting the accomplishments of the late Alta resident, Orville Radke, a hand corn-picking champion.
- “Little House on the Prairie” comes alive with special displays and demonstrations. Children will experience what it was like in the “good old days”.
- Children’s games, a petting zoo, and other activities.
Keeping with the tradition of the Hanover Festival, two Midwest polka bands, Malak’s Fishermens Band and the Mark Vyhladil Band will entertain for the duration of the event.
Food and drinks are served throughout the day including a selections of grilled sandwiches and pie and ice cream.
Admission is $10 and there is no cost for children 14 and under.
