REAP to aid solar funding Iowa deadline to apply is Nov. 2
LE MARS — Eligible applicants, including small businesses and farmers seeking funding assistance for new solar projects, may apply for a nationwide program available through a local USDA-Rural Development office, said Kimberly Clay, a USDA rural development specialist, in Le Mars.
She added this is a competitive process with many of the applicants hiring a grant writer for the application.
The grant awards up to 25 percent of the eligible project costs. This includes costs for solar projects.
Loan guarantees are available through a lending institution and can be up to 75 percent of the eligible costs.
Clay said the funding is toward purchase and installation of renewable energy systems including solar, for energy efficiency improvements such as grain dryer replacements or lighting, insulation and ventilation in animal confinements.
Complete applications must be turned in prior to the start of construction.
Only expenses incurred after the submission of a complete application (including environmental assessment) are eligible for reimbursement.
Those requesting grant funding less than $20,000 to compete in the fall funding cycle must submit applications by Nov. 2.
The deadline for all other applications must be filed by May 2, 2016.
For additional information, Clay said she can reached at the Le Mars office by calling (712) 546-5149.
