Sets young farmers event
CHEROKEE – Iowa State University Extension is hosting a workshop on Iowa Beginning Farmer Programs from, 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.. March 29 at the ISU Cherokee Extension office, 209 Centennial Drive, in Cherokee.

Mary Tuttle, county program coordinator, said the free workshop will focus on beginning farmers; however, it is open to all farmers, farm managers, FSA officers, agriculture lenders, agriculture attorneys.
“Our goal for the program is to educate beginning farmers,” Tuttle said, “as well as farmers who are looking to retire, about the opportunities that are available to them.”
Topics include low-interest land, building and equipment loans; Iowa tax credits for landowners who lease to beginning farmers; and Iowa tax credits for farmers who hire a beginning farmer.
