Sheep profitability workshop set
ORANGE City – Iowa State University Extension is hosting a profitability workshop at 6:30 p.m. March 29 at the Sioux County Extension office, 400 Central Ave., NW, Suite 700 in Orange City.
Registration for the event is required. The deadline to register and submit the $10 registration fee is March 25.
To register, individuals can visit www.extension.iastate.edu/sioux, or email Beth Doran at doranb@iastate.edu or call the Sioux County Extension office at (712) 737-4230.
The event is in partnership with the Iowa Sheep Industry Association, the Iowa Sheep and Wool Promotion Board and Northwest Iowa Sheep Producers.
Beth Doran, a beef specialist with ISU Extension, said the workshop, “Fine-Tuning the Sheep Enterprise,” will focus on two computer programs which can help sheep producers increase profitability.
“The workshop is hands-on and features Sheep BRANDS and Iowa State’s Sheep Feedlot Monitoring Program,” said Doran. “During the workshop, participants will learn how Sheep BRANDS can help formulate feed rations for breeding or market sheep.
“Additionally, individuals will work with the newly-released Sheep Feedlot Monitoring Program which helps producers monitor pen performance, calculate financials and track inventories.”
Instructors include Dan Morrical, an ISU sheep specialist; and Garland Dahlke, a software development specialist.
