Farmland leasing meetings planned for central Iowa

ALTOONA – Iowa State University Extension scheduled 12 farmland leasing meetings across central Iowa during late July and August.

Meeting sites include Oskaloosa, Boone, Altoona, Nevada, Grinnell, Knoxville, Newton, Indianola, Adel, Marshalltown, Traer and Winterset and are coordinated by county ISU Extension offices.

The five events within the Farm News coverage area are:

(A). Boone: 9 a.m. July 28 at the Boone County Fairgrounds, 1601 Industrial Park Road, in Boone. The register call (515) 432-3882.

(B). Adel: 9 a.m. Aug. 1, at St. John’s Catholic Church, 24043 302nd Place, Adel. To register call (515) 993-4281.

(C). Altoona: 7 p.m. Aug. 3 at the Polk County Extension office, 1625 Adventureland Drive, Altoona. To register call (515) 957-5760.

(D). Nevada: 9 a.m. Aug 5 at the Story County Extension office in Nevada, 220 H Ave., Nevada. To register call (515) 382-6551.

(E). Marshalltown: 7 p.m., Aug. 25 at the Fisher Community Center, 709 S. Center St., (641) 752-1551.

Topics to be covered include current cash rental rates, land values and landowner surveys; cash rental rate case study; determining a fair cash rent; strategies for writing and terminating a farm lease; ISU Extension web-based resources.

“These meetings are designed to help landowners, tenants and other agri-business professionals with current issues related to farmland ownership, management, and leasing agreements,” said Steve Johnson, a farm and agriculture business management specialist with ISU Extension.

Meetings will last approximately three hours and will be facilitated by Johnson.

Pre-registration is required at least two days before the meeting and a $20 per individual or $30 per couple fee is payable at the door.

Registrants will also receive a 100-page booklet containing farmland leasing information.
