Western Iowa Experimental Farm annual meeting set
CASTANA – The 71st annual meeting of the Western Iowa Experimental Farm Association is set for 10 a.m. Feb. 24 in the Zimmerman meeting room at the Association Farm near Castana.
The agriculture program will be followed by a lunch. The program will include a summary of 2016 activities at the farm, and On-Farm and Iowa State University corn fungicide research summary data from 2010 to 2016, plus soybean aphid insecticide resistance issues in Iowa presented by Joel DeJong, an ISU field agronomist.
A confinement-site manure applicator certification workshop will be held in the afternoon for producers needing certification.
The Western Farm is located on the south side of County road E-34, about 4 miles east of Castana, or 3 miles west of the junction of E-34 with County road L-32 (south of Mapleton and west of Ute).
The Farm was founded in 1946 by local farmers and agricultural businesses within Crawford, Harrison, Monona, and Woodbury counties, in cooperation with Iowa State University. research and demonstrations to benefit agriculture in these and neighboring West Central Iowa counties and the annual meeting is one way to reach out to citizens with local information.
