Iowa State University Extension and Outreach farm and ag business management specialist Kelvin Leibold is slated to speak Wednesday, Dec. 5 at 1 p.m. at the Farm News Ag Show.

Leibold’s presentation, “factors impacting future farm profits in a global economy,” will provide an overview of the current financial position of Iowa farmers, the current issues regarding trade tariffs, how other agricultural producing countries are reacting to the tariffs, how China subsidizes its farmers, how competitive are Iowa farmers with other countries when it comes to corn and soybeans and why is new land coming into production.

“By attending, you will gain a better understanding of how well other farmers are doing financially and a better understanding of how the tariffs have impacted them in the short run and what it may mean for the future,” said Leibold.

He said show goers can also expect to gain a better understanding of why and how Chinese farmers are subsidized and how our cost of production for corn and soybeans compare to other countries.

Leibold has 31 years of experience with ISU Extension. His areas of expertise include farm management, farmland and building leasing, global agriculture, land values, farm machinery management, estate planning, intergenerational transfer and beginning farmers. He is a member of the ANNIES PROJECT national leadership team.

Leibold has observed agriculture in Brazil, China, India, Nigeria, Paraguay, Russia, South Africa, Thailand and Western Europe.
