Letters from Readers

By Staff | Jul 1, 2020

Dear editor:

I first met Jerry Crew when he sent me a letter through the post office asking me to write to Iowa Farmer Today bashing organic farming. He had found that they wouldn’t publish his letters. He had read my letters and seen my concern for the environment and skepticism of the green movement.

This was many years ago. Since then we have emailed back and forth, disagreeing, like you might expect a libertarian and conservative would. He mostly sent forwards and I would look them over before bed. It blew my mind to think I knew a guy who flew in an SR-71 Blackbird (Google it).

As an old Cold-warrior and a life-long anti-war protester, Jerry and I had some very spirited discussions. With his passing I hope his questioning spirit will carry on with lots of civil and thoughtful letters to Farm News.

A letter to the editor doesn’t have to be a masterpiece. Let’s honor the memory of my friend by sharing ideas in this paper.
