SAC COUNTY — Judy and the late Roger Kenny of Sac County were inducted into the 2022 Iowa 4-H Hall of Fame during a ceremony at the 4-H Exhibits Building at the Iowa State Fair Aug. 21. Judy was unable to attend but her certificate will be mailed. Ninety-eight Iowa counties participated this year and selected 133 inductees for their outstanding service and dedication to 4-H. Inductees or their surviving family members were presented a certificate by the Iowa 4‒H Foundation President, Julie McGonegle, State 4-H Program Leader, Debbie Nistler, as they were introduced on stage.

Roger Kenny grew up near the Cumberland area with his two brothers, Bruce and Keith. Roger Kenny was a 4-H member growing up and exhibited cattle and hogs at the county fair. Judy grew up in the Schaller area with her three sisters, Rosalie, Sharan, and LaRae.

The Kennys raised their three children: Brian, Brenda, and Kurt on a livestock farm near Schaller. The Kenny family raised hogs, sheep, and cattle and took great pride in their livestock production. They were leaders of the Eden Hot Shots 4-H Club in Sac County for at least 10 years while their children were 4-H members and exhibited sheep, cattle and hogs.

Roger and Judy opened their home to their 4-H club and hosted the meetings in their basement. They were also joint livestock superintendents at the Sac County Fair for more than 20 years. For many years, Roger and Judy Kenny were the herdsmanship judges at the fair.

The couple loved the fair and watching their grandchildren show their cattle and sheep that were home raised.

Judy Kenny received the Sac County 4-H Award in 1994 and Roger Kenny received the same award in 2008 because of their many contributions to the Sac County 4-H program.

Counties select inductees for their exceptional work in contributing to the lives of 4-H members and the overall 4-H program, said Steph Erpelding, ISU Extension and Outreach Sac County. The inductees have demonstrated dedication, encouragement, commitment and guidance to Iowa’s 4-H’ers through the years.

“We are honored to recognize these special individuals, for their advocacy and dedication to the Iowa 4-H program,” shared Iowa 4-H Foundation Executive Director, Emily Saveraid.
