To the editor,

The broad undocumented assertions in Fritz Groszkruger’s letter, “Working for a cleaner planet” (Oct. 27) make it difficult to know where to begin to find truth, reality or his motivation. But it might be worth trying.

For example, he states without providing any source, that “1,600 experts” said “in their recent declaration that there is no climate crisis.” That sounds authoritative, but is it really? Who are these folks? In what areas do they hold their expertise? In whose employ do they work? I’m pretty sure in a world of nearly 8 billion people I could find a couple thousand to agree with me on any notion I might hold, crazy or otherwise. I’d probably consider them experts.

He goes on to assert, “Heavily regulated and heavily taxed countries are dirty.” Again there is nothing offered to substantiate his statement, nowhere I can look to see supporting evidence. But as we know, it’s an opinion letter and everyone is entitled to their opinion. There’s also an old joke about that.

His most wide-sweeping claim comes when he writes, “some things are certain, all the computer-generated predictions from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change have been proven wrong over time.” The IPCC that he refers to here was established in 1988 and working ever since has issued more than 30 reports, the most recent this year. I cannot imagine how many computer-generated predictions that might involve because we’re talking about the work of the world’s specialists in climate science for more than three decades, all peer reviewed. That’s gotta be a lot of computer models, thousands? millions? All those were wrong I’m told. It helps to believe that claim if one isn’t aware of what the IPCC is, how it proceeds, and so on.

Doing a quick check online shows both Corporationwiki and Bizpedia report Fritz Groszkruger of Dumont, Iowa, to be a governing person for Cbm Gas Company LLC in Houston, Texas. Is that accurate? I’m not fully informed on what it means to be a governing person for a gas company or how financially invested it might make one. Could it lead to proclaiming praise for fossil fuels in an unregulated free market and demeaning any of its critics? Maybe Mr. Groszkruger will explain in his next letter.
