Agronomy workshops for women planned near Melbourne

Women can strengthen agronomic skills resulting in better decision-making

By Staff | Apr 12, 2024

MELBOURNE — Women landowners, farmers, conservationists and other women who are interested in learning more about agronomy can do so at upcoming sessions of Agronomy in the Field.

This multi-session workshop will be held on four dates on a farm near Melbourne (exact location will be sent out to those who register). Workshops will be May 6, June 3, July 1 and Aug. 5, from 5:30 to 7 p.m.

The goals of this series are to strengthen agronomic skills for women, resulting in better decision-making and understanding of inputs for crop production, as well as increased knowledge of various conservation practices and confidence in communication with their spouse, farming partner, ag retailer or tenant.

“We plan to cover topics on crop growth and development, pest management principles, scouting techniques and additional practices and topics as they come up this spring and summer. The group really leads the topic selection and discussion,” said Meaghan Anderson, field agronomist with Iowa State University Extension and Outreach.

This series is designed to be hands-on and conducted in the field to see real-time conditions. Each session will be approximately 1.5 hours long and interested women can register for the whole series or any sessions of interest.

There is no charge to participate; however, registrations are required for supplies. Register online or with Chelsea Llewellyn at the ISU Extension and Outreach Marshall County office by April 29 by calling 641-752-1551 or emailingchelsea@iastate.edu. The registration link is https://go.iastate.edu/I9ESUN.
