To the editor,
Even with 25 years of experience as a teacher, evaluating and providing feedback on student essays, Fritz Groszkruger's letter (March 3) was so inept it left me wondering where on earth I would begin.
I decided to forward it to some colleagues to gather their thoughts. What would you write on this before handing it back? Here are a few of the alternatives:
A. "Your essay lacks focus, it's all over the place."
B. "Please look up the difference between climate and weather."
C. "You demonstrate a profound lack of information and an inability to objectively examine what little information you provide."
D. "For a kid in my class, a comment in red, "See me." When he arrives we sit down and I inform him we're going to have to start over."
